10th edition. From 25th to 27th January 2011

“They told me and I forgot it. I saw it and understood it. I did it and learned it”

What is Chemistry in Action?

Chemistry in Action is a workshop. It is organized by the Faculty of Chemistry, at the University of Alcalá, in collaboration with different departments of Chemistry, with the aim to provide the reality of this science to high school students.

Chemistry in Action is based on the performance of experiences and demonstrations by teachers and students of the faculty. The activities are geared to attracting the attention of participants to the world of chemistry as something interesting and funny, not serious and boring.
It is mainly focused at high school students, but in this edition, during the International Year of Chemistry, has been extended to secondary education students. In this edition, 22 centers and more than 800 students from “Corredor del Henares” have participated.

Some members of the research team Inquifor participated during the workshop, both, in the organization and performance of the different experiences that made up the workshop.

Some of the demonstrations performed by the inquifor members were “smoke flares”, where we developed a simple and safe experiment to produce a home-made flare. Other experiments where we participated were those related with chemical reactions and states of matter such as: risk a 5 € ticket which does not burn, the magical writing, turning water into wine, dichromate volcano, distillation, demonstrations such as  liquid nitrogen and dry ice, sublimation, etc.
